This is the sixth and final lesson in a series adapted from Dana Morey’s discipleship guide Your New Life.
As a follower of Jesus, one of our greatest blessings and responsibilities is sharing His love with others so they can know Him too. People are hurting and lost, and they don’t know how to change their lives. You can be the person who brings them the truth that will set them free.
Remember, God doesn’t want anyone to perish in sin. He wants everyone to turn to Him, to be forgiven, and to receive new life. That is why Jesus gave His followers what we call the Great Commission.
Jesus told His disciples:
Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.
Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
God loves the whole world, and just as He forgave you and gave you eternal life, He also wants to use you to help others experience that same hope. Sharing our faith in Jesus with the people in our daily lives is a key part of being a disciple. Every believer is called to be a witness to the people in our lives. That includes you.
Two Simple Steps to Share Your Faith
Becoming an effective witness for Jesus starts with two key steps: learning to tell your personal story, and learning to share the good news clearly.
Tell Your Personal Story
You will be amazed at how many people want to hear what Jesus has done for you. Your story only needs to be about ninety seconds long and cover three simple things: what your life was like before knowing Jesus, how you came to trust in Him, and how He has changed your life since.
Your story is powerful because it is your real life experience of being changed by Jesus. No one can argue with what God has done for you.
Share the Good News Clearly
Next, learn how to explain how someone can place their trust in Jesus and start a new life. Take time to learn a simple, clear way to walk someone through the gospel message step by step. Once you have learned this, you will have what you need to share the love of Jesus with almost anyone at any time.
Your decision to follow Jesus was the beginning of a lifelong relationship. Pursue Him with all your heart. He has more good things prepared for you than you can imagine, and He will help you grow in wisdom, strength, and grace for the rest of your life.
